Hello, my name is Betsy Stallworth. I'm a registered nurse and the recruitment coordinator for this project. I enroll individuals who meet this study's criteria. I assist people in completing the consent process, answer all their questions, and then obtain a blood or saliva sample. The DNA from these samples are collected and securely stored in our lab, along with consent information.

Before the pandemic, I drove our big pink bus called the Gene Machine, which is like a lab on wheels, to meet people for in-person enrollment. Currently, all study enrollment is done virtually. Individuals who meet the study criteria are mailed a package containing consent forms and saliva collection kits. A virtual enrollment appointment is set for a time that's convenient for the study participant using a HIPAA-secure video. I guide the participants through the consent process, making sure that all of their questions are answered before talking them through the saliva collection process. Once completed, the forms and saliva kits are returned to our lab in the included postage-paid mailer.
